When Patience is Prosperous

Let’s talk about the ‘waiting game’

I think something I’m in the process of learning at this point and time in my life is patience. I’ve never thought of myself as a patient person. I’m always wanting and hoping for things to come together as quickly as possible. I think partially why is that if things don’t happen over night, then that means failing is on the horizon. But I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how patience is the essence of creating an open door for God to come in and peel back the layers of uncertainty. It’s purely a psychological mind game. Yet so purposefully filled with being content in the lives we currently live that what we don’t have isn’t seen as a hindrance, but rather an opportunity to prosper.

Another thing about patience is that it teaches us to humble ourselves. We see friends, family members, and even strangers who have what we want. Whether that be in the form of a job, the perfect place to live, more time off to travel, or even a partner to do life with. I don’t know about you, but if I’m not careful envy can enter and control my heart in certain situations where patience is hard to grasp onto. Being patient reals me back in and reminds me to remain optimistic and most importantly humble.

I think one of the most construed thoughts about being patient is that the end result is always better than the waiting period. I’d falsely deny that. I think the best part about waiting is learning to wait. Learning to cope with what you don’t yet have. Learning to stick it out for the long run. Letting grit become your theme track to life.

You see it’s not merely how fast or how far it takes you to get somewhere or to achieve something. It’s learning to trust, to grow, and to hold onto faith that really defines the edges of who someone is. Seeking out the end result while skipping over the middle is not really patience at all. In fact I’d describe it as quit the opposite. Not only that, but you are doing yourself a disservice from a lesson to be learned. A lesson so useful and necessary in life. A lesson carved out for the well rounded person.

Being patient is not a walk in the park. It’s a tough game to grasp, but when you hold on tight and trust the process, or better yet trust the one who created you, patience becomes easier. Eventually there is light found at the end of the tunnel. Light that in the waiting period seemed so hard to find, but over time it so effortlessly becomes easy.

So, the next time you find yourself dug in a deep hole of comparison tired of playing the ‘waiting game’, just know it’s not for nothing. You cant compare your circumstance to those around you. The wait produces character and wisdom. Character and wisdom you wouldn’t have had other wise.
