YOUR TRAVEL GUIDE TO ALL THINGS CONEY ISLAND
YES,YOU SHOULD GO!
So, you’re debating if escaping the city for a day to travel to Coney Island is worth the trek?
If you are like me, it may sound a little bit out of the ordinary to have a beach day and leave such a beautiful city like New York. However, it is so worth it, and It’s definitely not going to be your typical beach day. If you still don’t believe me, you should go just for the subway ride. If you take the Q train, you cross right over the Manhattan Bridge which offers fantastic views of the skyline towards downtown NYC. Once you are in Brooklyn the train is no longer underground, which means you can see Brooklyn in all of its glory with plenty of sunlight involved. Also, traveling to the beach by subway only takes about 40 minutes, which is pretty good for escaping the city.
I suggest getting off at Brighton Beach. Brighton Beach is just a short walk from Coney Island, a lot less crowded, and definitely more of a family oriented beach. Once you have spent a couple hours at the beach, take the boardwalk to Coney Island where you will be introduced to the coolest/weirdest amusement park you have ever been too. A must do when in Coney Island is get a Nathan’s hot dog! It will change your life, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t ever care for them. And if you are feeling extra adventurous get a side of cheese fries.

Maybe the best part about Coney Island is that it costs nothing to gain entree into the park. However, they do make you buy tickets for rides. If you are like myself and feel that just walking around the park is enough for the sake of experiencing the place, my only suggestion would be to ride the infamous rollercoaster, the Cyclone. With so much anticipation built up to finally ride the roller coaster I’ve heard so much about, I was sad that it was not operating while I was there. No worries though because I googled it, and it for sure still runs!! So feel free to get your hopes up like I did, and hopefully they will not get crushed.

After you get your fix of the park itself, checkout the boardwalk in front of the park. There is a pier you can walk out on to, and see Coney Island and all that comes with it, and by it I mean the hundreds of people on the beach. I’m not joking guys It was insane, (this is why I suggest Brighton Beach for your beach day).

Finally, what better way to end a day full of adventure than by watching the sunset (kind of). Even though the sun sets on the other side of the coast, the beach pretty much clears out by golden hour, leaving you with open waters and a whole lot of sand to enjoy the beach the way it should be!
