Just a Simple Smile

Happy Saturday!

I am currently sitting in a coffee shop in the middle of New York City writing this blog, sipping on my iced mocha, and I can’t help it to feel a little bit like a hipster. I guess West Palm, and its “hipstery” vibe has changed me.

As I still try and figure out what my blog posts are going to be about.  I wanted to share a little encouragement with you all. Sorry for the long post in advance.

Last night, I had the opportunity to go out on the streets of New York with a few friends and pray for the Homeless. We gave them the necessities that they were in need of and most importantly had the pleasure of praying with them. Some of course did not want anything to do with us, but the few that did were some of the kindest most loving people that I have ever had the chance of meeting. There was this one lady named China. China Is probably in her early 30’s and is about to be a single mother on the streets on New York City. Yes, she is pregnant. Thinking about it breaks my heart. She is fighting every day to survive, not only for herself, but for her baby that is on the way as well. Hundreds of people walk past her daily, and turn to look to the other side of the street, or glance at their phone in order to avoid, what they think, will be an awkward engagement. But what if they didn’t? What if they just simply glanced and smiled, asked her how her day was going, or dropped the little change that they have jiggling in their pockets?

I am sharing this story with you all, because all too often we are caught up in our own lives complaining about the line being to long at our local coffee shop, or the person in front of you on the subway that is walking slower than you would like. That we forget to just simply think about others. To notice others. To interact with others. Sometimes all it takes to make someones day is a smile. When is the last time you just smiled at someone, and I don’t mean just a little smirk, I truly mean when is the last time you made an effort to fully smile at someone?

No matter who you are, or what you believe. We have the chance to wake up every morning and make a difference.  Not just to wake up for our 9 to 5 job, or attend classes to get a degree. We have the opportunity to wake up every morning and say , ” I am going to be different, I will be a difference maker in peoples lives. Today no matter what, I want to be better than I was yesterday.”

So, I simply ask this: To smile, a full smile. You never know how you may impact someones life, and I bet you, it will impact your’s as well.
